Albany Maritime Ministry operates the Seafarer's Center at 105 Smith Blvd,in the Port of Albany. Volunteers ensure this hospitality center in the heart of the Port remains open each evening ships are in port. Here Mariners use their precious shore time to contact loved ones, mail letters, get news from home, use the Internet, or just relax by shooting pool and ping pong, playing music or watching TV.

Mariners also come to the Seafarer’s Center seeking “food for the soul”, knowing they can access an ordained Christian minister as well as clergy of other faiths, attend services, or talk in confidence with someone about their problems and sorrows. We provide Scriptures in English and other languages; offer resources for seafarers engaging in Peer Ministry on board ship while at sea - Bible study - prayer; and provide opportunity for Word and Sacrament ministry either on board or, as appropriate, with local congregations.

In times of trouble, Albany Maritime Ministry provides advocacy, support, counsel and hospital visitations. We advocate for seafarers in issues of justice, wages and immigration - working closely with International networks of Port Chaplains (NAMMA, ICMMA, the Center for Seafarer's Rights), U.S enforcement, etc.
We make and receive requests for Follow-up ministry through networks of Port Chaplains, and engage in personal follow-up correspondence as possible.

Our ministry in the public space of an active seaport includes an ecumenical cooperation among all faith groups. We invite and train mission minded people and congregations of the Capitol area to pe part of this international ministry on our doorstep.
